IAAP DETROIT
The Detroit Chapter was chartered on July 10, 1947, five years after the National Secretaries Association (NSA), the original name of IAAP, was founded. The Chapter's original name was the Detroit Transcript Chapter and it had eleven members.
The Chapter started a Scholarship Fund in 1950 and held its first workshop at the University of Detroit. Subsequent workshops were held at Cobo Hall and attended by over 1,000 people. Subjects included typewriter usage, networking and computers.
Since 1947, the Detroit Chapter has partnered with Detroit companies and organizations in promoting professionalism and excellence in the workplace. The results of these partnerships have been and are long term, dedicated admins that have a vested interest in the success of their organizations, allowing management to feel confident about delegating more difficult assignments to their admins - even in times of economic hardship and recession. New technology and corporate streamlining has surged with business into the 21st century, and Detroit area administrative professionals have risen to a more important role than ever before. The Detroit Chapter has kept up with these demands and is uniquely positioned to be the go-to chapter for professional development, training, and job networking. Membership in the Detroit Chapter of IAAP is a win-win situation for both the member and their employer.
The Detroit Chapter has built the professional image of administrative professionals in the workplace by supporting office professionals in achieving their career goals through education, community building and leadership development, while promoting and rewarding cooperative relationships with Detroit’s most respected organizations in both the public and private sector.
